We are proud to work with Pomana Contracting Ltd. Pomana Contracting demonstrated their commitment to sustainability by measuring their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Why should businesses measure their emissions?
Measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is often the first step on a business’s sustainability journey. By measuring emissions, businesses can gain a competitive advantage by meeting customer expectations, staying ahead of stricter regulations, reducing costs and improving operational efficiency. For example, using less fuel benefits both the environment and a company’s bottom line.
Pomana Contracting’s main motivation to measure their emissions was to align their operations with their commitment to sustainability.
MyImprint’s approach to comprehensive indirect emissions
We followed the globally recognised ISO 14064-1:2018 standard to ensure a thorough and transparent assessment. Here are some key aspects of the process of measuring Pomana’s emissions:
Amortising Capital Goods: Capital goods like equipment and machinery are significant contributors to emissions. We amortised their emissions over their useful life to accurately reflect their annual impact as per the approach from ISO 14064-1 section B.5.2. This approach ensures that capital goods are accounted for in a fair and standardised way.
We included emissions from upstream leased assets: Vehicles and machinery.
Inclusion of purchased goods and services: We accounted for often-overlooked emissions from essential construction materials, such as nails and fencing wire, emphasising the importance of Category 4 supply chain emissions for a comprehensive assessment.
The Next Steps
By measuring their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Pomana Contracting has made sustainability progress they can be proud of, and now have a baseline that they can measure against. The data collected throughout this process provides valuable insights to where their emission hotspots are, and will guide their strategies for reducing emissions. Pomana Contracting’s next steps will be setting GHG reduction targets and implementing a reduction plan.
This approach will not only help Pomana Contracting with tendering and winning over more contracts but will also get them a stronger engagement with stakeholders, and reduce costs.
